Miss North Dakota USA
Miss North Dakota USA 2018
Abigail Pogatshnik is a fourth generation North Dakotan, and was born and raised in Bismarck. Abigail is proud of her North Dakota roots and credits them for her work ethic in pursuit of her dreams.
Abigail is currently pursuing her undergraduate degree at the University of North Dakota in psychology pre-med. Her goal is to obtain a medical degree and become a surgeon.
Since starting her college career Abigail has been appointed Director of Substance Abuse Prevention with the North Dakota Higher Education Consortium. The NDHECSAP provides guidance and leadership on substance abuse prevention issues throughout the North Dakota University System. They help the State Board of Higher Education, University System campuses and the University System office identify substance abuse prevention needs and challenges and develops strategies for addressing those issues.
Recently, Abigail was named a Youth Correspondent Advisor for National Organization for Youth Safety. She participated in the Youth Interactive Traffic Safety Lab NOYS held in Fort Washington, MD. This lab gave area students the opportunity to experience hands-on activities in driver, passenger, pedestrian, and tire safety. Abigail joined Students Against Destructive Decisions in the eighth grade. With SADD, she found a safe place to be herself. She was able to start the healing process from all the damage bullies had inflicted on her since she was eight. Abigail was appointed to the Northern Lights SADD’s student board her junior year, and was named NL SADD’s student of the year at the end of her junior year even though throughout that year her high school didn’t have a SADD chapter. She was able to keep up with the SADD by going to another area high school’s meetings. Abigail was also instrumental in re-starting the SADD chapter at her school her senior year.
While in high school Abigail was also involved with cheerleading, cross country, and track. As Miss North Dakota USA, Abigail hopes to use her title to promote her platform of anti-bullying and positive self-image.
